"Ladies and Gentlemen! Gob Squad has the honor of presenting you with a live show with real kids! An opportunity that is as rare as it is exciting to witness seven lives in fast forward - right before your eyes!"
The show of the German-British artist collective Gob Squad begins with a divine voice from off-screen. On stage in a mirrored glass box sits a group of eight to 14-year-olds. Then the game begins, and Gob Squad sets the biographical clock of the children and young people in motion. They meet themselves, their own past, recorded on video and projected on a screen; and they meet themselves as adults.
Will they actually behave at a 45th birthday party the way they are now playing on stage? Unimaginable -- after all, they are already commenting on events that happened only two years ago, from their recent past, completely serene and almost nostalgic.
In this experimental set-up, Gob Sqad's children confront themselves and us with questions about happiness in life and fears of life, "Before Your Very Eyes" is the last part of the trilogy in which the Belgian production house CAMPO has developed theatre works with children for an adult audience.
