Language Resources: Supporting English Language Learners

A collection of glossaries that can be used for accommodations for ELL students during testing or for instruction during the school year. Included are: English Language Arts (ELA) Glossaries; Math Glossaries; Science Glossaries; Social Studies Glossaries; Glossaries of Cognates; and Guides of Literary Terms & Devices for Language Arts. Each year the Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature (CSMCL) identifies the best in multicultural books. The annual list includes books of especially commendable quality, books that exhibit creativity, and books of fiction, information, poetry and pictures for all age levels that reflect and encourage the interests of children and youth in exemplary ways.

There are over 130,000 multilingual English learners in Washington state. The goal of Washington's OSPI is to support all multilingual learners to meet state standards and develop English language proficiency in an environment where linguistic and cultural assets are recognized as valuable resources for learning.
